Looking forward to seeing you at your show in Birmingham Alabama! My partner would like to use wall paper in the front hall, what do you think? Is wallpaper back in? Most importantly, if we go ahead can you give us any tips on how to put it up without a relationship breakup! Thanks asked: 2011-12-04 12:44:48

David asked: Hi Andrew
Wall paper is very much alive David! Make sure your walls are smooth before hanging the paper, even the slightest bump will cause big problems. Have fun and tell me how it went when I am in your beautiful city.

Angela asked: Andrew, I am about to do the edges around my walls before I paint but it looks like cr...p. How do I do this?
Hi Angela,

Before you start sit down with a nice bottle of wine, takes the edge off. But seriously, painting the the edges of your room is really important if you want to achieve a professional finish. Remember to use a really good brush, (purdy for example), start a couple of inches below the ceiling and wall and slowly move the brush up. This will give you an idea as to how your brush is moving the paint and will also avoid having the paint pour up onto the ceiling. If that fails, back to the wine and start again.

Kim asked: Hi Andrew, did a strie (sp?) in your show in Saskatoon and so I tried to do it at home but I had a lot of trouble with the tape for the lines. First, it didn't stick very well and worse, when I pulled it off it pulled the paint as well. What did I do wrong?
So sorry to hear that Kim! If you are doing any faux finish that requires tape it has to be Scotch Blue. Trust me on this one! I am sorry you didn't get a role when I was there, I always give a box away for each show.

Lauren asked: I saw you in Miami and I asked you about what I need to do to paint over oil but totally forgot, can you help?
I can't remember yesterday.. If you want to paint over oil you must use an oil primer. Apply 2 or 3 coats, (it dries fast), then you can apply latex. Remember, only oil primer will stick to oil.

Jenny asked: I have a question about using old paint. I want to do some touch ups in my house and have saved the paint from years ago, can I still use it?
Hi, if you want to use old paint you might want to consider doing a couple of things first. 1. Give the paint a good shake and stir, this will blend the pigment. 2. Get an old pare of nylons and pull over top of the can before you pour into the tray, this will filter any little bits that may have formed over time. Good luck!

James & Connor asked: Hi, a friend told us about you because we just bought a new house and want to paint it before we move into it. There are so many different sizes of nap for paint rollers. How do we know what length to use?
Hey guys! I use a high pile roller when I paint but I would suggest you use a 10 to 15 mm

donna asked: Hi Andrew, saw you in Edmonton and really enjoyed your show! I have picked a red wall for a little drama in my living room only I can't get it to cover! I have already put on 3 coats and I can still see through it! Help!
I remember you! Before you put on another coat ask yourself if you really dig the colour. Why? Because it has to be deep base primed over then painted again. Another 3 or 4 coats for sure. What is a deep base primer you ask. Well it is basically gray paint. Bottom line is that the red you want is a killer to apply. Hope that helps.

Susan asked: What type of paint do you suggest on trim. I have always used oil but hate the smell.
Funny just had a question just like this! If you have oil on your trim now I would stick with it on the repaint, however, if you are starting fresh try a latex semi. Same effect but you can wash your brush out with soap and water intead of min. spirits. Thanks for the question. Andrew

Jasmine asked: Andrew, what kind of paint is better for interior walls, oil or latex? Loved your show in Orlando. Thanks!
Hey Jasmine! Love latex washable flat. Most paint co's have them now, including BEHR in their 2in1. I used to use it on trim because it dried flat but have even givin that up as well. Hate the smell and mess of oil so latex all the way!
